A varied programme in September at the Chopin House

The cultural season following the summer holidays will kick off at the Chopin House on Friday 4 September in the courtyard with a ‘Prologue’ by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. Suk’s Serenade for Strings will be conducted by Michaela Rózsa Růžičková.

Classical music will give way to the ‘Beer Wellness Programme’ on Saturday 5 September. Local breweries will be showcasing their products in the courtyard, alongside performances by accordionists, a DJ and the band Booger. You can look forward to open tastings for the public and a Pilsner Urquell beer-pulling workshop. The all-day programme will culminate in the PechaKucha Night, a popular evening of presentations featuring guests from all sectors of the beer world.

Following Saturday’s beer therapy, Sunday 6 September will see a focus on health in a slightly more traditional vein. Health Days at the Chopin House will offer ten interactive stations focused on a healthy lifestyle. Visitors will be able to have their blood pressure measured, find out their body fat or muscle mass percentage, take a lifestyle test, or make use of personalised advice and a relaxing massage. The entire programme is free of charge.

On Tuesday 8 September, the theme of lifestyle will give way to a look at the history of gastronomy. The lecture ‘In the Footsteps of King Edward VII and the Gastronomy of the Belle Époque’ will take visitors into the world of haute cuisine at the end of the 19th century. Historian Martin Franc will present the period when the culinary indulgences of the wealthiest classes reached one of their peaks. You will learn what dishes were served at European aristocratic and royal courts, and how modern haute cuisine – as served in luxury restaurants – first emerged at that time. On Friday 11 September, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Fryderyk Chopin Primary School of the Arts. The opening of the exhibition of the same name will showcase the work of pupils from the fine art, ceramics and multimedia departments in the Studio, Gallery and café.

On Saturday 12 September, the second annual Marienbad Games will take place in the courtyard of the Chopin House. Come along to play sport, take part in competitions, support a good cause and enjoy a day in the spirit of fair play and good humour – regardless of your age or fitness level.

On Tuesday 15 September, the film club’s first autumn screening will take place. *Mistryně* is the latest film by Bohdan Karásek and, once again, it is a sensitive relationship drama.
On Thursday 17 September, the Chopin House will host the opening of the 21st edition of the Mariánský podzim festival, with musical accompaniment provided by the Slovak ensemble Poľana. As is now traditional, there will be tastings of the finest Moravian wines, and culinary specialities will also be on offer.

The packed September programme will conclude on Saturday 19 September with a concert by the duo SaLu*t – Lucie Benediktová and Sara Karlíčková. Both performers are prize-winners of numerous national and international competitions and are studying at leading German music academies. Their concert will feature a varied programme, combining masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries with contemporary music.
