On Friday, 8 May 2026 at 7.30 pm, the Casino Social House will host one of the highlights of this year's Opening of the Spa Season - the Gala Concert for the Opening of the Spa Season 2026, which will offer an extraordinary musical experience performed by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Mariánské Lázně, conductor Stanislav Vavřínek and world-renowned Czech bass-baritone Adam Plachetka.
The gala evening, which is one of the traditional highlights of the opening of the spa season, will be opened by a welcome by the mayor of the town. Afterwards, a representative programme consisting of works by two giants of Czech music - Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák - will be performed. Listeners can look forward to the overture to The Bartered Bride, arias from the operas The Secret, Rusalka, The Bartered Bride and Libuše, and after the interval also Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88.
The uniqueness of this year's concert is underlined by the participation of Adam Plachetka, one of the most prominent personalities of the contemporary opera scene. The Czech bass-baritone, who is at home on prestigious international stages including the Vienna State Opera, New York's Metropolitan Opera and London's Royal Opera House, is one of the most important ambassadors of Czech musical culture abroad. He wins over audiences not only with his exceptional vocal quality and technical brilliance, but also with his charisma and distinctive stage personality.
The conductor will be Stanislav Vavřínek, a respected representative of the Czech conducting scene, known for his energetic and sensitive interpretation of symphonic and operatic repertoire. During his career he has collaborated with a number of major orchestras and opera companies at home and abroad and his artistic expression is appreciated for its precision, musicality and ability to captivate both orchestra and audience.
An integral part of the evening will be the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra of Mariánské Lázně, one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the Czech Republic, which continues the more than two-century-long musical tradition of the spa town. It is the festive concerts of this type that confirm its important place in the cultural life of Mariánské Lázně and the entire Czech music scene.
