This year marks 81 years since the end of World War II. Traditionally, the Chopin House has prepared the Liberation Celebrations to commemorate the legacy of all those who fought for their dream of freedom with the sacrifice of their own lives. The programme will include an Open Day at the Chopin House with guided tours and an open library of the Fryderyk Chopin Society. Visitors can enjoy an exhibition of vintage cars throughout the day or dance to the rhythm of swing during a concert by the popular band SESTRYOLY in the afternoon.
The Liberation Celebration and Open Day will begin at 10.00 am in the courtyard of the Chopin House, where you will find, in addition to several historic cars, community stalls. Local associations will present their activities.
Right at 10.00, participants will go on the traditional guided tour of the Chopin House. The original House at the White Swan is one of the few buildings that has been preserved in plan and urban design exactly as it was designed at the time of the founding of Mariánské Lázně. Architect Ludmila Míková will explain its colourful history, its inhabitants and famous visitors. Capacity is limited to 20 participants with a discounted admission of 50 CZK.
The library and research room of the Fryderyk Chopin Society will be open from 14.00 to 16.00. The latter manages materials commemorating the composer's stay in Mariánské Lázně in 1836. At 14.00 a programme for children will start on the Small Stage. In the theatrical performance "About the Wizard who stole dreams" they will learn where dreams come from and why we do not remember them. The Theatre Without Backstage from Sokolov will tell the story of the brave Maruška, who did not let her dreams be taken away.
We will make dream catchers to protect the good dreams and to protect against the bad ones from 3:00 pm. In the Creative Workshops we will work with wood, layer the different parts, combine them with small scraps and create original amulets that everyone will take home as a personal talisman.
The celebrations will culminate at 17:00 with a concert by the Pilsen swing band SESTRYOLY. What do the four singers and four instrumentalists have in common besides their love of swing and true sibling bonds? Let yourself be enchanted by the charm, sophisticated humour and hope of the First Republic era. Come and enjoy a swing concert with solo hits from interwar Czechoslovakia and dancers from the newly formed group Krušný swing.
