The MARIENBAD GALLERY, located right in the heart of Mariánské Lázně, will present the work of the renowned Czech painter Ivana Lomová, who became famous for her emotive realistic paintings inspired by her childhood memories, in the second exhibition of this year. The opening will take place on Friday, 26 September 2025 at 17:00 in the gallery on the main colonnade of Mariánské Lázně. The exhibition will run until 13 January 2026.

An artist who paints "the power of silence"

Ivana Lomová (*1959) is one of the important representatives of contemporary Czech realistic painting. After studying architecture, she devoted herself to illustration and the creation of cartoons, but in the mid-1990s she turned fully to oil painting on large canvases, where she found her authentic painterly expression.

Lomová creates paintings based on photographs, but she considers them only as inspiration for capturing reality combined with her own ideas. Her works are strongly emotionally charged and draw mainly from memories of her childhood spent in Střešovice, Prague.

"I want to preserve the magical smell of memories in my paintings before beautification and modernisation," explains the painter of her approach. Her work is characterised by emotional restraint, modesty of colour and a focus on ordinary, unspectacular motifs. The result is "quiet paintings" that lead one to reflect on the transience of the world and offer a pause in the contemporary hectic life.

The MARIENBAD GALLERY reopened in May 2025 thanks to the initiative of several enthusiasts. Karel Kalivoda and his team from Ensana played a key role, together with Marienbad entrepreneur and hotelier David Folprecht.

"We are delighted to be able to offer visitors to our city quality art in the unique historical setting of the colonnade. The combination of 19th century architecture with modern art creates an unforgettable experience," comments gallery owner David Folprecht.

Curator Alena Mrovcová adds: "Ivana Lomová is a great choice for our second exhibition. Her intimate, thoughtful works fit perfectly with the Marienbad atmosphere and are sure to appeal to a wide range of visitors."

Ivana LOMOVÁ is a Czech painter who lives and works in Prague. After studying architecture, she devoted herself to her profession for a short time. However, her heart was in fine art. She started as an illustrator and cartoonist.

In the mid 90's she broke away from illustrations and small format drawings as she vehemently embarked on classic oil paint on canvas, where she found her true painterly expression.

From the very beginning she has painted realistically. She works according to photography, which is only an inspiration for her to capture reality, which she combines with her own ideas.

The paintings are motivated by experiences from the past, strongly emotionally charged. Memories from her childhood spent with her sister in the Střešovice district of Prague. In her paintings she wants to preserve the magical smell of memories before beautification and modernization.

Lomová approaches her work with emotional restraint. The motifs are not spectacular-ordinary things around us. And this often results in a modesty of colour. They are essentially quiet paintings that lead us to reflect on the transience of the world... but also to pause in our current busy lives. In front of Lomová's paintings we have the feeling that the POWER OF SILENCE is speaking to us.
