Marianske Lazne will be transported to the atmosphere of tropical Sri Lanka for a few days this year. From 13 to 17 April 2026, the Reitenberger Spa Medical Hotel will host a special programme dedicated to the celebration of the Sri Lankan New Year Awurudu, one of the most important festivals of this island country.
Awurudu symbolizes new beginnings, prosperity and harmony and is strongly associated with the tradition of Ayurveda. Ayurveda has long been one of the pillars of the Reitenberger Hotel's offer, which offers authentic Ayurvedic stays and treatments under the guidance of Sri Lankan doctors in Marianske Lazne.
During the five-day programme, guests can learn about the traditional rituals that accompany this holiday. For example, there are rituals for health and happiness in the New Year, demonstrations of Ayurvedic treatments, tastings of typical dishes and talks about Sri Lankan traditions and the philosophy of Ayurveda.
The programme will culminate on Wednesday 15 April, when part of the celebrations will also be open to the public at the Abbot's Restaurant. Visitors can look forward to a cultural programme with traditional music and dance, talks on Sri Lanka and Ayurveda, a lantern-making workshop, competitions inspired by Sri Lankan customs and themed refreshments. A tropical-inspired decoration will add to the atmosphere, along with an indoor flower sale and the opportunity to sample or purchase Ayurvedic products.
Interested members of the public can register for Wednesday's program via an online form. The event is free to attend with the option to pay extra for an evening buffet of light, nutritionally balanced food based on a holistic approach to health.
In addition, each registered participant will receive a special voucher for a selected Ayurvedic massage or treatment, which can be used on one of their next visits to Reitenberger Spa Medical.
The aim of the event is to introduce local residents and spa visitors to Sri Lankan culture and Ayurveda not only as a healing method, but also as a life philosophy that integrates care for body, mind and community.
The Awurud celebrations will thus offer a unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a traditional Sri Lankan festival and to learn the secrets of Ayurveda in Marianske Lazne.
