Film and Music Festival returns to Mariánské Lázně for the tenth time

3.6.2025 | Events

The 10th anniversary edition of the Marienbad Film Festival will take place from 12 to 15 June 2025 at the Municipal Theatre and Chopin House. The canvases and the local colonnades will be lit up in the spirit of this year's theme. The cultural event in the unique setting of the spa town will offer a rich film showcase and will also delight music enthusiasts. The festival is a permanent fixture of the cultural season, worth experiencing for yourself!

The Marienbad Film Festival is an international film festival that focuses on experimental films and more artistic and challenging films. You will get to know different perspectives on film than you know from the regular cinema. When was the last time a film really surprised you?

"The festival's theme, Healing with Noise, will focus on the different forms of noise, error and disruption as a creative tool that can challenge established structures, but also bring relief and renewal. Noise is not just a by-product of transmission, it is the potential for change. Whether in film, music or the way we perceive the world," says Tomáš Vobořil, the festival's programme director.

In addition to the film screenings, visitors can also look forward to a rich musical accompanying programme called Touched. "We believe that the music programme will appeal to a wide audience, not only film fans. This year we have newly established cooperation with Club Na Dvorku. The local Mariánské Lázně residents are as important to us as other visitors and we want to be closer to them. We will be very happy if they join the festival and come to the film or concert," invites Anna Kopecká, the executive director, to the festival.

On Friday 13 June at 9 pm, two prominent figures of Czech alternative music - Kvietah and Monika Načeva - will take the stage at Club Na Dvorku.

Kvietah (Magdalena Fendrychová), a recent winner of the Anděl Award for Discovery of the Year, will come to the festival with her new album Thanks, Bees. Her songs are personal, sincere and not afraid to touch on social issues such as the Russian aggression in Ukraine or issues of activism.

Monika Načeva will then take the microphone and will also sing songs from her new album Jdem temným dnem. The project brings together poems by artists persecuted by the past regime. The performance is sure to be a powerful, musically and thematically profound experience.

The evening of musical improvisation on Saturday 14 June will offer a unique combination of fragments of film compositions by three prominent personalities of the contemporary music scene - Jakub Kudláč, Jonátan Pastirňák and Ondřej Mikula. The concert will feature free improvisations based on their original film works, which will come to life in new, unexpected contexts.
Festival passes can be purchased online at www.goout.net or directly at the venue. Payment will also be possible by QR code. The pass includes admission to all films and the accompanying programme; tickets for concerts and films can also be purchased separately.
