Singing Fountain
The Singing Fountain is one of the dominant features of Mariánské Lázně. There is a daily program of music played as the fountain springs into life - these performances take place every odd hour from 7 am until 10 pm with the final two displays (9 am & 10 pm), making use of embedded lights. Each year on 30th April at 9 pm, the fountain puts on its first performance of the new tourist season. The official close of the season comes on 31st October at 8 pm when the fountain puts on its final show.
The Singing Fountain consists of a circular pool with a diameter of eighteen metres, featuring a twelve-part stone sculpture in the shape of a stylised flower with a polished steel centre. The fountain has ten basic water jet systems, two of which are formed by 330 nozzles. The central jet reaches a height of six metres. The entire fountain is computer-controlled, allowing it to create impressive water jet combinations, including coloured lighting. The artistic design was created by architect Pavel Mikšík.
Reconstruction 2024–2025
In 2024, the Singing Fountain underwent the largest reconstruction since its creation. The technical facilities below ground were modernised in particular – new stainless-steel piping, pumps, electrical wiring and a storage tank were installed. Above ground, the pool was repaired and insulated, the surfaces were cleaned and new nozzles were added. The fountain now uses more energy-efficient sound equipment and modern LED lighting.
The aim of the reconstruction was to preserve the fountain’s original artistic appearance while ensuring its long-term reliability. The total cost amounted to almost CZK 50 million and was covered from the budget of the Town of Mariánské Lázně.
