Choir FONTÁNA

Location: Colonnade
Time: May 9th, 2025, 16:00 to 17:00

The mixed choir Fontána was founded in 1968 at the then Cultural and Social Center in Mariánské Lázně. Since 1992, it has operated as an independent artistic entity and carries a name inspired by one of the city's symbols – the local singing fountain.

Since 1989, the choir has been led by conductor Pavel Urban, a graduate of the Plzeň Conservatory. Under his leadership, the choir has grown into a respected ensemble that has represented Mariánské Lázně on numerous foreign concert tours and has also hosted many choirs from all over Europe.

Today, the choir has approximately 30 members and a broad, genre-diverse repertoire: from sacred music of the 15th–20th centuries, Italian madrigals, Czech and European folk songs, American spirituals, to opera choruses, song cycles, and popular Christmas pieces. Fontána regularly rehearses larger vocal works by both Czech and international composers.

Throughout the year, the choir performs at colonnade concerts, spa season opening celebrations, Advent and Christmas concerts, and international choral meetings in the Czech-German border region. The choir organizes the Mariánský Festival of Sacred Music, which has been held for 15 years, and maintains long-standing cooperation with the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. The highlight of the season is the joint concerts at the Společenský dům Casino – including the traditional Ryb’s Christmas Mass and Easter concerts.
