CHOPIN FESTIVAL

The internationally renowned Fryderyk Chopin Festival has been a part of the cultural events of Mariánské Lázně for decades. It is held annually in the third week of August by the Fryderyk Chopin Society.

The Society was founded in 1959 and its duly elected chairman was the piano virtuoso, professor of piano at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts, Prof. František Rauch, and he remained so until 1996. The mission to develop and pass on Chopin's compositional legacy and to spread knowledge of Chopin's life and works was ingrained in the society. The first Chopin Festival was held in 1959 at the founding of the Chopin Society, and today it is the third oldest music festival in the country after the Prague Spring and Smetana Litomyšl. Since 2012, the Society and Infocentrum s.r.o. have been cooperating on joint production and ticket sales.

These August days filled with music are one of the biggest cultural festivals in the Czech Republic and significantly enrich the cultural life in Mariánské Lázně, bringing many outstanding performers and distinguished conductors from all over the world to the town every year. Since 1962, the festival has been enriched every two years with a piano competition, where the works of F. Chopin and has already featured a number of outstanding young performers whose names soon became known to the whole musical world.
