Sulobo Quintet, whose members are Daniela Holá (accordion), Oldřich Červenka (marimba), Radim Pluhař (bass guitar), Lukáš Kouba and Benjamín Hradil (percussion), was formed during the members' studies at the Pilsen Conservatory. The idea of founding the ensemble was conceived by accordion professor Marie Čejnová in 2023 and the ensemble was formed in the same year.
The combination of instruments that make up the group can seem rather limiting in terms of repertoire. The aim of the group is therefore to show through their playing that even these very unconventional instruments can have a very wide range of uses - whether it is the Argentine tango, which is typical of the accordion, or bossa nova, in which the marimba is not commonly encountered. The desire to explore new performance possibilities led the quintet members to the conclusion that building a repertoire in the spirit of world music is a great opportunity to highlight the often untapped potential of these unusual instruments. You can look forward to music from the Balkans, Ireland, South America or Spain, as well as classical and jazz compositions . Due to the very diverse repertoire and almost no original literature for groups of this type, the players create a large part of the arrangements themselves. Often they also draw on transcriptions intended for other instrumentations.
Despite its short existence, the quintet has achieved a number of significant successes. Recent ones include 1st place at the International Accordion Competition in Dobřany, 1st place in the online competition Trophée Mondial de l'Accordéon, and a gold medal at the ACCO Kroměříž International Accordion Showcase for Chamber Ensembles. Recently, he also scored a concert at the international festival Kutnohorský Week of Accordion.
The event is realized with the financial support of the town of Mariánské Lázně.
