Ways to receive spa treatment

A spa stay can be arranged under three basic payment schemes:

Fully covered spa treatment

The health insurance company covers standard treatment, accommodation and meals. Any accommodation upgrades or additional services are paid for by the patient.

Partially covered spa treatment

The health insurance company covers standard treatment. Accommodation, meals and other expenses associated with the stay are paid for by the patient.

Self-funded stay

A treatment stay can also be undertaken without reimbursement from a health insurance company. In this case, the client books the stay directly with the selected spa facility and pays for all services.

How to apply for spa treatment covered by health insurance

First, discuss the possibility of spa treatment with your attending physician.

An application for spa treatment and rehabilitation care may be submitted to the health insurance company by the patient’s registered general practitioner, the outpatient doctor who recommended the treatment, or the attending physician during hospitalisation.

The application is then assessed by the health insurance company. Eligibility for covered care, its form and duration are determined by the current list of indications.

In the case of fully covered spa treatment, the health insurance company usually sends the approved application directly to the selected spa facility, which then informs the patient of the admission date.

In the case of partially covered spa treatment, the patient usually arranges the date of the stay directly with the selected facility after the application has been approved.
