Town Museum

The building of the museum is located in the oldest house of the historical part of the town, characterized by Empire frontage facing the sunny south. This is an important building, dating back to 19th century, and it is the last proof of how the town looked like in the time of its founding. The house was built in 1818 as a pension for spa guests, called "Zlatý hrozen" ("Golden bunch of grapes"). In 1823, Johann Wolfgang Goethe was here as a guest. A bronze memorial plaque above the arched entrance and the newly opened exhibition on the 1st floor, which has been readapted and extended recently, commemorate Goethe's stay in Mariánské Lázně.

The museum, founded in 1887, has been residing the building since 1953. The museum collections of the region of Mariánské Lázně housed here. During 1975 - 1979, the object was reconstructed and a new one-story additional building, featuring a projection room, an auditorium and rooms for new exhibitions, was built on the courtyard. Another reconstruction of the historical building was realized in 1998 - 1999.

The museum simultaneously exhibits collections in the exhibition and concert hall in the Anglican Church, which are dedicated to the English king Edward VII who was a frequent visitor of Mariánské Lázně, and in the open nature of the "Geological Park", on an area of almost 10 hectares, near the museum building.
