History:

The Skláře Airfield opened in 1927, and the first flights from the new airport in Mariánské Lázně flew to Prague. When the airfield first opened on 4. July 1927, it served as a civilian airfield up until WWII, when it became a practice airfield for German pilots.

The Mariánské Lázně airfield in Skláře was ceremonially opened by the Mayor Dr. Hans Turba on Monday  July 4th, 1927, and regular flights to Prague (twice daily there and back) and Kamenice (Chemnitz, once per day) were launched. Both routes tied into the European air flight network to designated towns from the very beginning. The first flights featured four-seater airplanes. Although it’s been nearly eighty years that aviation has developed over the world, regular flights between Mariánské Lázně and Prague, once commonplace from 1927-1938, have not been renewed.
