Cross Spring

Heavily mineralized with a laxative effect.

History:

Cross Spring

Although the Cross Spring was the oldest known spring, it achieved in the time of Nehro world-wide renown. Regarding its chemical properties, pharmacology, and hydrology great thick tomes have been written. In 1749 the records of the Tepelsky Monastery first mention the Cross Spring as "salty", "salty mineral water."

The Spring was once used for drinking and for bathing. Above the Spring, the local builder Antonin Therner built - according to the designs of the land building directorate in Prague - an imposing pavilion with a dome and a gold patriarchal cross standing on 72 ionic pillars. The original building was made of wood, bricks and stucco, so that its weight wouldn't damage the spring. It lasted in its original form until 1912.
A completely new pavilion was built, mostly from concrete, as a copy of the original designs, into which a few art nouveau motifs appeared. In the peristyle temple there is a bust of Dr. J. J. Nehru

The most famous spring - The Cross Spring - was originally called Salty because of it's taste, Ferdinand Spring was also initially called this. When, in 1749, a pharmacist from Tepla, called Damian Schulz erected a high cross from the from the beams in the area of the salty spring and the spring surrounded the nearby stone circle, people began to talk of the Cross Spring. The names of the three springs we first read in Zauschners book of 1766 - Cross-,Ambrose and Mary.
