The international Fryderyk Chopin Festival has been part of the Mariánské Lázně summer cultural scene for many years. The Fryderyk Chopin Society hosts the festival every year on the third week in August. The Society was founded in 1959, and the piano virtuoso and former piano professor at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts František Rauch has become its honorable chairman. The Society is devoted to develop and hand down Chopin's legacy of composition as well as to expand knowledge of Chopin's life and works.
2009 saw the festival's 50th year
These days in August, full of music, are one of the Czech Republic's favorite cultural holidays, enriching the cultural life in Mariánské Lázně and bringing many exceptional performers and conductors from around the world to town every year. Since 1962, the festival has featured a piano competition every other year devoted exclusively to works by F. Chopin and has brought many exceptional young performers to the forefront of the world's musical scene.
